Am 23. Juli 2014 stimmte der Rat der Europäischen Union dem Antrag Litauens auf Beitritt zum Eurogebiet am 1. Januar 2015 zu. Der Umrechnungskurs wurde unwiderruflich auf 1 € = 3,45280 LTL festgelegt.



  • Bei Postämtern, Kreditgenossenschaften und Banken
    Litas-Banknoten und -Münzen können in Litauen bei 330 Postämtern und einigen Kreditgenossenschaften (bis zum 1. März 2015) und bei allen Banken (bis zum 30. Juni 2015) gebührenfrei zum festgelegten Umrechnungskurs umgetauscht werden. Manche Banken tauschen Litas-Banknoten bis zum 31. Dezember 2015 um.

  • Bei der Lietuvos bankas 
    Die litauische Zentralbank tauscht Litas-Banknoten und -Münzen in unbegrenzter Höhe und für einen unbegrenzten Zeitraum zum festgelegten Umrechnungskurs gebührenfrei in Euro um.

  • Bei den anderen nationalen Zentralbanken des Euroraums
    Sie tauschen auf Litas lautende Banknoten vom 1. Januar bis zum 28. Februar 2015 kostenlos zum festgelegten Umrechnungskurs um. Der Tageshöchstbetrag für den Umtausch beträgt 1 000 € pro Person/Transaktion.

Die Europäische Zentralbank und die Lietuvos bankas führen eine Kommunikationskampagne durch. Diese Kampagne umfasst:

  • die Produktion und Verteilung von Veröffentlichungen zu Euro-Banknoten und ‑Münzen sowie zur Bargeldumstellung; insbesondere erhalten alle Haushalte in Litauen eine Broschüre mit dem Titel „Sind Sie bereit für den Euro?“;

  • eine Kampagne in den Massenmedien mit zwei kurzen Filmen für Fernsehen und Internet zur Bargeldumstellung und zur Püfung der Echtheit von Euro-Banknoten und -Münzen in englischer und litauischer Sprache; die Kampagne beinhaltet zudem Werbemaßnahmen in Printmedien, Außenwerbung und Online-Werbung;

  • eine hochrangig besetzte Euro-Konferenz, die am 25. September 2014 stattfand;

  • die Euro-Ausstellung im Schloss der Großfürsten von Litauen in Vilnius (Katedros a.4) vom 23. Oktober 2014 bis zum 5. Januar 2015.

7. We understand that stocks of ECB materials for distribution are limited. We will inform the ECB of the number of copies distributed, the means of distribution as well as the target groups.
On behalf of the company/institution mentioned above, we declare that we will refrain from using any materials either in printed or electronic form provided by the ECB until our membership of the Partnership Programme has been confirmed.
We will be liable for any damages incurred by the ECB should we not act in accordance with this Letter of Intent. We also understand that the ECB reserves the right to terminate our membership at any time.
